New Music Experience:
akash plays sarod*

*Sanskrit word “Akash” - [aka:sh] means - heaven, aether, consciousness, space. This name was given to European performer and composer by his Indian Guru - the greatest sarod player of our time - Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Sarod - is a 19 strings plucked fretless lute, a classical musical instrument from Northern India with an extraordinary noble sound.

Akash: "I want to quote great musician Zakir Hussain:
"Music is a religion for me, because it is way of life".

Music performed by Akash is completely unique and does not fit any standard boundaries. Music performed by Akash can be best described as a fusion of pure North Indian classical music and intuitive improvisations, original and old compositions, meditation and emotional power. All in all - true realization of the phenomenon "freedom in discipline" that only partially fits under the labels like classical, world, jazz, traditional, modal, ethnical improvisation or fusion.

Akash earned the title of the Best Guitar Player and the Best Original Music Composer of his country at the National Music Competition at the age of sixteen. Soon after, inspired by the Shakti project led by the pronounced jazz guitarist John McLaughlin’s, Akash began his research of the Indian classical music. In 1987 Moscow conservatory professor Jivani Mikhailov has changed his life forever, by giving a chance to meet Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, who accepted Akash as his student. Now Akash has his own Classical Indian music school in Riga.

30 years of experience allows Akash to create a unique program for each of his performance. Some of the concepts include:

1 “Time Theory in Music” - morning, daytime, evening and night ragas. Music played in the right time creates a meaningful effect.

2 “Love and Meditation” - program includes great ragas like Darbari and Bhairavi.

3 "Christmas Ragas" - early music of Christian tradition played in Indian classical music style and Akash original music.

4 "Shanti and Shakti" - peace and creative energy, Indian Goddesses presented in music.

5 "Yoga in Ragas" - music connected to yoga like ragas Jog, Jogia, Bhairav, Kedar and more.

Special projects:

6 "Akash and Mukti" - intuitive improvisations with both Latvian traditional music vocal and instrumental masters.

7 "Dance of Raga" - Indian classical music with yoga based choreography dance improvisations by yoga instructor and dancer.
